The Pre-Fall Skin Reset: How to Repair Summer Damage and Prep for Your Best Skin Season

If June through August is the season that damages skin the most, then August is the month that determines whether that damage becomes permanent or becomes a starting point. The way you treat your skin right now — in the final weeks of summer — sets the foundation for everything your fall protocol can achieve. Here's how I approach the pre-fall reset with my clients.

Step One: Exfoliate the Summer Damage Away

Sun exposure thickens the outer layer of skin as a protective response. By late summer, most people have a visible accumulation of dead skin cells that are dulling their complexion, blocking serum absorption, and preventing actives from penetrating effectively. Before you can layer on the powerful fall actives, you need a clean canvas.

Two to three times per week, I reach for the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask — the self-warming formula opens pores and enzymatically dissolves dead skin without physical abrasion, which is critical when skin is still slightly sensitized from summer. Alternate with the Glide + Glow Complexion Pads for a lighter exfoliating swipe on in-between nights.

Step Two: Flood Skin with Growth Factors

Late summer is an ideal window to use growth factors aggressively. The slight cellular stress from a full summer of UV exposure actually creates a primed state for growth factor uptake — your skin cells are in repair mode and respond more readily to regenerative actives. The Growth Factor Peptide Fusion Serum applied nightly throughout August accelerates the repair of UV-induced collagen damage and sets the stage for retinol's collagen-building work to follow in fall.

Step Three: Address Brightening Now, Before Spots Set

Hyperpigmentation from summer UV exposure is still in its early formation stage in August. This is your window to interrupt it. Vitamin C every morning without fail. A brightening serum in the evening. The earlier you intervene in the melanin production cycle, the less corrective work your fall routine has to do.

Step Four: Rebuild the Barrier

Sun, heat, air conditioning, and increased water exposure all compromise the skin barrier over summer. Before introducing the more challenging fall actives — retinol, stronger acids, growth factors — make sure your barrier is fully intact. Two weeks of the Microbiome Balance + Defense Serum morning and evening will restore the resilience your skin needs to handle the season ahead without reactivity.
